Question #3: Can there be an atheistic construct of morality?

It has been said that without a God, without some higher being or purpose, men become simply atoms and rabbits.

Those who hold to no God say that a spirit of looking out for ones self will create a moralistic society.

What do you think?

  1. No, I don't think that atheists can have a moral construct without God or some other "higher being." Atheism is built on the idea that there is no God. They look to evolution as their proof of this. Evolution says that all things were created through random accident and chance. We are nothing more than animals. Our DNA determines who we are, and DNA is amoral. Nothing is right or wrong. If you think murder is ok, then go for it. If rape is a fun hobby, then who is to say your wrong? Some atheists might say that they can have morals without a moral law giver, but the morals that they forward (i.e. lying is bad, murder is bad, rape is bad, feed the poor, etc.) are morals that they have ripped off from Christianity. If they want morals then they have to create their own and justify them. Which is not possible because there is no one that you are ultimately responsible too.
